Blessings From Tragedies by Delina Hill-Brooker

sun Son

There are so many things that I want to say, as well as things I don’t want to think about concerning the George Zimmerman trial and verdict. As heart breaking as it is, we have to look at the bigger picture. ALL things work together for the good and glory of the Lord. Even though it’s hard to see HOW, it only HAS to be. Blessings can and do come from tragedies.

The Civil Rights Movement for example. People were being beaten and hung only because they were Black, looked at a white person and other senseless reasons. Even though the struggle was hard, painful and scary, because of the countless tragedies, we as a nation became more aware, caring and realized that with a lot of had persistence and hard work, we can make a change. Things are not perfect now, but they are better. Every day we take steps to better race relations and civil rights. Instances like the outcome of the George Zimmerman trial are reminders that there is still work to be done.
We cannot get comfortable and ALLOW acts of violence to be committed against our children – no matter what their color or background. This is a reminder that we need to not only march, but vote, know the laws, and be informed. There are plenty of Trayvon Martin’s, they just haven’t received the publicity that he has.

There will be blessings that come from this tragedy. The Civil War and The Emancipation Proclamation all had a hand in freeing the slaves. More recently the attacks of 9/11, the capture and killings of Saddam Hussein, his sons, and Osama bin Laden, and the peace that is coming from it.

Like I said before, ALL things work together, for the good and the glory of the Lord. The sun and the son are always shining through the clouds. If we do our part, He will do His, it just takes time.
