Angenita Williams – Childs

Born in Memphis, TN, raised in Indianapolis, IN, Angenita began her writing career as a sophomore in high school. A shy person by nature, Angenita wrote notebooks of poems and stories, and kept them to herself until age 22, when she wrote her first full screenplay entitled Grindaz.

Angenita attended Ivy Tech State College, Indianapolis, IN, and pursued an Associate Degree in Computer Information Systems Technology in hopes the field would be lucrative in career choices. She was wrong, and was forced to take jobs such as Secretary, Office Manager, and Administrative Assistant. During the next ten years, Angenita held on to her true passion: writing.

In 2007, she enrolled at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis to pursue a Bachelor Degree in English with a Creative Writing concentration. She graduated in 2010. While she was enrolled in college full-time, she also collaborated with her two co-authors in the non-fiction book Revealing & Healing: 3 Women’s Stories of Survival. She is also co-founder of Lioness Vizions, LLC. Angenita is a remarkable poet and budding spoken word artist that goes by the name “LuvLee.”

Angenita has been a guest speaker at several organizational events that included the AKA sorority monthly meeting, Women In Motion, Inc. monthly breakfast, and Our Kids (OK!) Program. She performed at the IUPUI International Women’s Day Celebration in March 2011, reciting poetry from Safiyah Henderson-Holmes to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire of 1911. She was featured in the Spring 2011edition of the IUPUI Alumni Advances newsletter. In 2013 Angenita appeared on Oprah’s Lifeclass with Iyanla Vanzant, on the Daddyless Daughters episode. In 2015, she was a speaker in Bold & Standing Tall, a teleconference to break the chains of sexual assault. Angenita is passionate about serving the community and is a former board member for the non-profit organizations, Ladies Under Construction and Women Reaching Out. She also serves as a mentor, and facilitated a workshop for the Your Journey conference for Indypendence, a division of Job Corps.

Currently Angenita is in the Master’s program at IUPUI for English and continues to write poetry, blogs, and articles as well as screenplays. She also proofreads and edits literary works and works with several local independent filmmakers with set production for their films in addition to building the Lioness Vizions brand.
